OpenAI Believes Apple Hasn’t Made an “Honest Effort” To Integrate ChatGPT Into iPhone, Even As Apple Frustrates Over 40 Engineers Poached By Sam Altman

OpenAI was the first entity to come to Apple’s aid when its AI efforts stalled at the end of 2024. While OpenAI’s motives for doing so were by no means altruistic, OpenAI maintained that it entered into the partnership in good faith, and now believes that has been overlooked by Apple. This comes as the iPhone maker aired its complaint against OpenAI for stealing its talent, sparking another violent clash in the courts.

OpenAI believes Apple is deliberately hindering the integration of ChatGPT into the iPhone, as Apple bemoans OpenAI’s robbery of its talent.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, OpenAI is particularly frustrated with Apple’s apparent stance on integrating ChatGPT into its iPhones.

In particular, OpenAI took umbrage at the fact that Apple had chosen to integrate ChatGPT in a way that didn’t take advantage of its full capabilities, resulting in “a subpar summary of what’s in the ChatGPT App Store app.”

Moreover, OpenAI was frustrated that, contrary to expectations of billions of dollars in additional revenue, its allegedly flawed ChatGPT integration in iOS generated little financial gain, especially since its internal data showed that users preferred ChatGPT apps over Apple’s integrated implementation.

Note that little money actually changes hands between Apple and OpenAI in their current partnership, except for the cut Apple takes for each eligible OpenAI service subscription.

According to OpenAI, they kept their end of the deal, while Apple did not. Critically, OpenAI believes Apple hasn’t even made an “honest effort” to better integrate ChatGPT into its iOS.

Therefore, OpenAI’s lawyers are now working with external law firms to explore available options, including filing a breach of contract lawsuit to take Apple to court. This comes as Apple is ready to open up its ecosystem to third-party AI agents in iOS 27, and continues to work with Google’s custom-built Gemini model to support the new chatbot-style Siri.

However, Apple is filled with righteous anger towards OpenAI for poaching its valuable talent. As we’ve previously reported, OpenAI has hired more than 40 Apple engineers in recent months, including those on its core design team. This poaching effort seems to have accelerated since OpenAI acquired Jony Ive’s io for work on its “iPhone killer” device.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
