Microsoft has announced that it is bringing major performance improvements and optimizations for PC gamers in the upcoming Windows 11 update.

Microsoft Windows 11 Updates To Bring Major Optimizations & Improvements To Gaming PCs & Handheld Devices

In a blog post titled “Windows PC Gaming in 2025: Handheld Innovations, Arm Advances, and DirectX Progress”, Microsoft has shared current and upcoming innovations for Windows 11 OS, & what gamers can expect in future updates.

It looks like there’s a big increase coming for PC gamers, whether on desktops, laptops, or handheld devices. The company has introduced a variety of new experiences, such as improved ray tracing performance, Xbox Full Screen Experience for handheld devices, Auto SR (Super Resolution), and the latest Advanced Shader Delivery support, which is something that major GPU vendors are working to integrate into their future platforms. Intel also supports precompiled shader distribution for reduced stuttering and faster load times.

The DXR 1.2 upgrade will pave the way for neural rendering support. This will be the next big step in graphics innovation as all the latest GPU architectures, including NVIDIA Blackwell and AMD’s next-generation RDNA, support it.

So, regarding what to expect from Microsoft’s Windows 11 updates in the future, Xbox Full Screen Experience mode will be coming to more Windows devices and won’t be limited to just handheld devices. ASD or Advanced Shader Delivery will be supported across additional hardware and storefronts (such as Steam). AutoSR (Super Resolution) support will also be extended to AMD’s Ryzen AI APUs, as used by the ROG Xbox Ally X, and there are further updates that will ensure Windows 11 PCs and handhelds are optimized for full performance.

Xbox full screen experience (FSE) for the Windows 11 form factor, available in preview today

FSE starts on handheld devices. Now it’s expanding beyond handheld devices and will be coming to even more Windows devices. Currently available in preview, Windows and Xbox Insiders can try it out on Windows 11 PCs: desktops, laptops, and 2-in-1s.

This experience features a controller-first interface for navigation, intuitive game launch, and minimizes disruption to any PC. It’s a gaming-first, full-screen environment where players can easily browse and launch titles from their entire game library—including the most popular PC storefronts. Advanced Shader Dispatch (ASD) Expansion.

ASD preloads game shaders during download, allowing certain games to launch faster, run smoother, and use less battery on the first playthrough. We’re continuing to add ASD support to more games on ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, and we’ve begun initial integration efforts to support additional hardware and storefronts.

Auto Super Resolution Preview (Auto SR).

Auto SR is our OS-level AI enhancement feature: delivering sharper visuals and smoother framerates in DirectX games running at lower resolutions, without any hard work from the developer.

Auto SR first shipped on Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X processors, and in early 2026 we brought a public preview to ROG Xbox Ally
