The technological giant seems to be very focused on launching the ability of AI that distinguishes them from others and helps them position themselves as leaders in technology. However, sometimes these features can come out as inappropriate because of the limits of blurry between privacy and responsibility with greater progress. That is what happened recently, where a technology commentator, Nate Jhake, found himself blocked after he called the new AI feature by Google as inappropriate. This step by this technology giant has triggered debate about several important topics ranging from technological accountability to data ethics and more.
Criticism is blocked by Google EXEC after calling AI’s disturbing behavior: Transparency or damage control?
Google launched a new AI feature designed to help users “try” clothes by uploading photos of themselves in the dressing room. Although it seems to look like an innovative step, many quickly see how features, which are intended to help, are invasive. One of the critics is a technology commentator, Nate Jhake, who said AI’s ability was very problematic. What makes this initiative more controversial is the announcement of Google’s executive Rajan Patel about the new AI trial feature with a rather absurd reference for Sydney Sweeney advertisements for teenage clothing brands.
Specific advertisements that are directed are campaigns that have received big criticism due to their hypersexual tones, causing references to make nerves, given how the features revolve around users who upload photos of their dressing room. Jhake commented on the posting of patels, questioning whether the AI model was trained using photos uploaded by the user, and even when the comments get traction, patels choose not to respond.
Jhake, after receiving a response from Patel, quoted the post tweet and adding sharp comments about what he believed to be Google’s hidden agenda. He shared how he said this new tool was not only to help online shopping but instead marked a shift towards parasocial products that were driven by AI and not only based on guessing games because Google actively invested in character, AI that built AI chatbot intended to imitate conversations and human relations. The post quickly went viral and gained around 100,000 views, reflecting how people might side with the criticism raised.
Patel, instead of overcoming the ongoing concern and ending the unbelieved air, responding by blocking Jhake and inviting more reactions about how to deal with Google’s criticism. If we look at the situation from an ethical point of view, it raises greater questions, such as AI products that are pushed to the market faster than the implications that can be realized. Controversial experience is not only about accounts that are blocked but a broader problem of inability to deal with supervision between technological giants.
