Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Will Offer “A New Playing Experience” For Players, Director Says

Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy game director Naoki Hamaguchi shared some small teasers for players looking forward to the third and final part of the series with Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 at Brazil Game Show 2025, saying that the conclusion of the lengthy remake project will satisfy fans old and new. Regarding the gameplay of Part 3, he also shared interesting information that is worth noting.

In particular, Hamaguchi mentioned the different gameplay focuses found in each game. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, the focus is on story-based narrative. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is more about a huge open world that players can explore, and in Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, that will be “a new gaming experience,” according to Hamaguchi.

“The first part features story-based progression, while the second part expands on this with an open world design that offers greater freedom for the player. Based on the second part, the third part is also created to provide players with a new gaming experience, so please look forward to it.“

On the one hand, yes, this is a very vague statement. You could classify any new game as a ‘new gaming experience’, but that surface-level definition isn’t what Hamaguchi is referring to. Instead, he said that the game won’t really follow in Rebirth’s footsteps and be all about its open world, or like Remake, and be at the forefront of the story.

That’s not to say the game isn’t driven by such elements, but it seems like something else will take center stage in Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, whether it’s a stronger focus on action and combat, bigger changes to the narrative and how players navigate it, or even more mini-games than we saw in Rebirth. Only Square Enix knows what is in store for the trilogy’s conclusion.

As for when we’ll get to play this third part, again, only Square Enix and the developers know, but according to Tetsuya Nomura, Part 3 of the trilogy is on schedule, as is Kingdom Hearts 4, if you’re curious.
