Today, Nintendo announced his change of ways Nintendo Switch 2 games will be priced in the future, or at least how Nintendo’s published Switch 2 games will be priced. In a brief statement published on its website entitled “About Nintendo Switch 2 Game Prices,” Nintendo made that clear from the start May 2026 and starting with pre-orders for the upcoming one Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, “digital titles exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 will have a different MSRP than the physical versions.”
Nintendo went on to explain that these games “offers the same experience whether in packaged or digital formats, and these changes simply reflect the differences in costs associated with the production and distribution of each format and offer players more choice in how they purchase and play Nintendo games.”
Pre-orders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book are now live, and that’s clear divided by $10 between digital and physical versions. To get the digital version, you only need to dig deep into your pockets $59.99 USDwhile the physical version, which you can also pre-order directly from Nintendo’s online store, is $69.99.
We can expect the rest of Nintendo’s portfolio of Switch 2 exclusive titles (which are also being published) to follow in its footsteps come May. However, the company stated that retailers can set their own prices for physical games, so don’t expect prices to always be exactly the same as what Nintendo has in its stores.
Making the digital version cheaper than the physical version makes sense if you look at the facts. Those physical boxes (which are very bare compared to how they’ve been dressed up throughout gaming history up until the mid-2010s) cost money, and the cartridges used for the game (or not if they’re Game-Key Cards) have a cost that makes them a bit more expensive to make.
When Nintendo publishes a game, it costs all that money, and it’s clear that Nintendo would prefer to keep you away from the physical library of games in every way it can. Be it with the much-unloved Game-Key Cards, or with its recent changes, which make purchasing the digital version even cheaper.
This is the latest blow to the physical gaming market, and anyone who enjoys collecting physical games. It’s also another step towards the day when Nintendo releases a big first-party title No come with a physical version at all. There are smaller examples of this, but we’ve yet to see a mainstream Mario game, for example, released without a physical version.
After all, Nintendo wouldn’t break its own rule that first-party Mario and Zelda games wouldn’t be Game Keycards in their physical versions if they didn’t have physical versions.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google.
