Womier SK75 TMR Review: I Can’t Stop Typing

In less than five years, Womier added a plethora of keyboard models to its arsenal, and its newest high-end offering, the SK75 TMR Rapid Trigger Magnetic keyboard (newer version), made its debut at the beginning of this month. While I never heard about this brand previously, it’s great to see that the company already has tons of options to choose from, and it appears that Womier takes a good note of users’ demands.

That said, in this post, we will take a close look at the SK75 TMR keyboard and see how it stacks up against competitors, and even more expensive options such as the Lemokey L5 HE 8K, which is an excellent magnetic keyboard for $199. The difference here is that the SK75 TMR is a more affordable option with competitive features and versatile connectivity options, which we will talk about in the review later.

Packaging and Contents

Packaging was decent, and it had a couple of accessories for customization. Apart from the SK75 TMR keyboard, you will get a few multi-colored additional keycaps, three additional switches, a keycap/switch puller, and a USB Type C to A cable.

Quick Specs and Core Features

Womier SK75 TMR brings a 75% layout with 81 keys in total. It tries to be compact by reducing the bezels, but overall, there is a noticeable size reduction in comparison to several of its competitors. While the keyboard originally debuted with the Outemu magnetic switches, the newer version brings the Womier Void Magnetic switches, which use TMR magnetic sensing technology to detect the actuation.

For comparison, TMR sensors offer more design flexibility than Hall-effect sensors used in many magnetic keyboards, since they can detect movement off-axis and therefore allow easier hot-swap designs, unlike Hall-effect setups that require more precise alignment. According to the official specs, SK75 TMR brings adjustable actuation point from 0.1 mm to 3.5 mm with a precision of just 0.01 mm.

SK75 TMR brings zero deadzone and the Rapid Trigger feature, which offers instant key reset when you release it. So, it should be excellent for professional gamers who can’t wait for the key to return to its original height before it resets. Unlike mechanical switches, this helps in registering the presses significantly faster, and you get more responsive strafing and counter-strafing.

One of the most notable features of the SK75 TMR is its polling rate, which is capped at 8000 Hz. This is already 8X higher than regular keyboards, but doing it wirelessly makes it a superior option to its competitors. The SK75 TMR doesn’t drop to 1000 Hz in wireless mode and can deliver 8 KHz in both wired and 2.4 GHz connections, which is exceptional.

Its PCB brings hot-swappability and supports both magnetic and standard 3/5-pin mechanical switches, which allow hybrid configurations. The keyboard does ship with some additional switches, but those are stock ones. That said, it’s something that might be intriguing to enthusiasts who have special needs when it comes to performance, and the SK75 TMR offers no compromises.

Build Quality and Feel

SK75 TMR is quite heavy, weighing 2 Kg. So, it’s a bit heavier than the Lemokey L5 HE 8K despite being more compact. It offers similar ergonomics and does not include kickstands for height adjustment. The built-in height gives it a comfortable typing angle out of the box, but it also means you can’t lower it to a completely flat position.

Regarding the color scheme, it might look like a plain black keyboard, but the chassis features subtle shimmery accents. The surface isn’t smooth, but slightly textured, and appears much more scratch-proof than most keyboards out there. Also, it’s interesting to see that there aren’t any onboard controls/switches, and there’s a single USB Type-C port on the front for wired connectivity.

The SK75 TMR uses Cherry-profile double-shot PBT for its keycaps, and these are quite durable. The legends are light blue and fully opaque, which means the RGB lighting illuminates the board around the keys rather than shining through the characters. The RGB lighting is bright and vibrant, but it’s mainly decorative, offering little functional illumination due to the opaque legends

For the casing, Womier used a pretty solid CNC aluminium body that offers durability and a wobble-free chassis. The keyboard uses multiple layers, such as FR4 plate, Poron Plate foam, PET Acoustic Film, IXPE Switch Pad, EPDM, and Case foam, to ensure a comprehensive dampening system that not only preserves its structural integrity but also offers an excellent sound profile.

The key presses feel even better than the Lemokey L5 HE keyboard, and the typing experience is outstanding. The key press sound is pretty uniform and consistent across the keyboard, and this balanced acoustic profile adds to the keyboard’s premium feel. Unlike traditional mechanical switches, you can expect that deep “thock” sound on this one, and it is much smoother and quieter.

Connectivity & Ease Of Usage

The Womier SK75 TMR offers tri-mode connectivity, which makes it an ideal choice for a variety of setups. Whether you have a PC, a tablet, or mobile devices, the SK75 TMR can be connected to any platform with ease. All you need to do is choose between the wired or wireless connections, and for the wireless connectivity, you have both Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz modes.

Bluetooth extends its compatibility to more devices, but cannot offer 8 KHz polling rate. The 2.4 GHz connectivity, on the other hand, is as quick as wired connectivity, and you will retain the 8 KHz polling rate, which isn’t common on wireless keyboards. The first time I tried to set it up, I was searching for some switches, but there were none. However, a switch is present under the Caps key, which you can use for turning on/off its wireless connectivity mode.

Since the keyboard is equipped with a large 8000 mAh battery, it can work for several days on a single charge and takes nearly 3 hours to charge fully. However, I found the location of the switch really awkward, because every time you want to turn it on/off, you have to make sure you have a key puller beside you. That shouldn’t be a problem most of the time since you can leave it turned on, as it can go on for days.

That being said, the keyboard automatically goes into sleep after 2 minutes of inactivity to save battery and wakes up instantly when you press a key. You can reduce or increase this time in the software, which we will talk about in the next section. Coming to the switch location, compared to the SK75 TMR, I liked the approach in Lemokey H5 LE 8K, which offers the switch on top. That said, the Lemokey doesn’t offer an 8K polling rate in wireless mode and can only be used via wired connection. So, the SK75 TMR takes an easy lead even in the connectivity area.

Customizations and Features

SK75 TMR is a highly customizable keyboard with options to not just replace the stock switches with your preferred ones, but also how versatile it is when it comes to tweak the functions. We have already talked about the hybrid configuration you can achieve by replacing the switches according to your taste, and when it comes to customizations via software, Womier offers a dedicated one for every one of its keyboard models.

After downloading it from their official website, I got a nice and clean interface that can be accessed in both English and Chinese. As you can see, you will have a plethora of tabs to figure out, and whether you want to make combo keys, macros, or add another layer, you can do all those in seconds. The most interesting customization is how you can change the behavior of the magnetic switches. This is commonly found on a lot of magnetic keyboards as well, but the Womier driver auto-saves whatever changes you make. Of course, you can turn off auto save, and can make and save your own profiles.

You can set the actuation distance for all or individual keys and set four travel distances for each key if you want to assign up to four different functions. For instance, if you are playing a racing game, you can accelerate according to the actuation distance. Or let’s say you want to walk slowly and run in a game, you can achieve it via the same key by assigning a smaller travel distance and a longer distance for those actions, respectively. It’s like having controller analog triggers on your keyboard, and you can make the actuation as sensitive as possible since you can enable up to 0.10 mm actuation distance and configure it in steps of 0.01 mm.

Then we have a dedicated light settings tab where you can choose between 20 presets or customize your own. However, the Community Share tab allows you to choose and download presets made by other users, which is really appreciable. I feel that in the customization area, the Womier SK75 TMR is flawless, as there’s a ton of flexibility, and accessing it all is surprisingly seamless.

The Verdict

Womier SK75 TMR is one of the best keyboards I have reviewed, and given its good price of $149, it offers so much to the table. Apart from minor flaws, which I have discussed above, the keyboard offers solid features, and whether you look at its core functionality or customizability, it doesn’t lack anywhere. SK75 TMR notable features include its 8 KHz polling rate in both wired and wireless connectivity, wide compatibility, and intensive customizations on the hardware and software levels.

The build quality and uniform key acoustics make it a premium option for enthusiasts. Whether you are a gamer, a coder, or anyone who prefers quick response and loves to have those satisfying key presses, you won’t be disappointed with SK75 TMR. At $149, it’s hard not to recommend this keyboard, but it would have been great if it were available in more color themes.
