Fallout New Vegas remains the most loved from all games in the popular post-apocalyptic franchise. While Buggy, this shows a very good story by Obsidian Entertainment, and many RPG fans believe this is their best work until now.

Over the years, rumors about potential sequels have only become stronger, especially after obsidian joining Bethesda in the Xbox family, and even more following the explosive success of the Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime Video. In addition, CEO Obsidian Feargus Urquhart did not exactly hide his preference for the franchise. In October 2022, he stated:

Of course, if we get the chance to make another Fallout game, we will succeed. There isn’t even a question whether we will do it or not, that is just ‘will the opportunity appear? I roam the interaction for maybe an extra year because I want to work more. I like Fallout.

At a certain point, we will start looking for the next game, and I will be surprised if Fallout is not on the list. If we do Fallout, it must bind to what Bethesda is doing with Fallout and many other things, but I personally say my hope is that before I go to the sunset, I want to make another Fallout game.

The hope of fans suddenly jumped yesterday when the famous game writer John Gonzalez revealed that he had returned to Obsidian. Gonzalez is credited because his work in Endwar Tom Clancy, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. He briefly was a narrative director at Smilegate Barcelona and then at Fantastic Pixel Castle at the upcoming MMORPG Ghost. And yes, we say that he returned to Obsidian because, as you might have expected now, Gonzalez is also the main creative designer and lead writer on Fallout New Vegas (who openly he thank God on his LinkedIn page).

Unfortunately, the hope for the sequel was quickly destroyed when he added the following under his new role as a creative director in the studio:

Back to Obsidian for a pleasant time! (No, this is not FNV2.)

So, the time hasn’t arrived yet, even though Microsoft reportedly wanted to push harder on the Fallout franchise. However, considering the studio and writer, we certainly want to learn more about this new project in time. For now, Obsidian is certainly focused on the launch recognized in a few weeks, followed by Outer Worlds 2, also scheduled for this year’s debut.
