Microsoft dropped support for the 10th Intel Gene processor in Windows 11 24H2, marking the end of the iconic “Comet Lake” lineup

A total of three generations of Intel processors have been released from the official Microsoft support list for the latest Windows 11 version.

Windows 11 24H2 will no longer support Gen 8, 9, and 10 Intel core processors

Yes, you hear it right! Microsoft has officially dropped support for several generations of Intel processors in the latest version of Windows 11, 24H2. This means that users who have this processor will not accept Windows 11 24H2 updates, making things difficult for millions of users who run their system on this CPU.

In this new announcement by Microsoft, it excluded all the Intel 8, 9 and 10th gene processors of the 24H2 version of Windows 11. This includes all desktops and laptop processors. This is strange, because the Intel 8, 9, and 10 DO CPUs support TPM 2.0, which is a hardware-based security feature needed for Windows 11 Intel.

This update does not mean that anyone who runs one of these CPUs will not be able to run Windows 11 on their system, but that means that they will no longer receive the latest Windows updates. Still surprising to see such updates since the 10th gene was released within the 2019-2020 time frame and qualified for running Windows 11.

Microsoft said that they would only support a processor that meets the ‘design principles’ of security and reliability to run the latest version of Windows 11. At the same time, he has added various new processor models from Intel and AMD to the list. Windows 11 24H2 will be supported in an 8000 AMD processor (desktop and mobile pro series), and here are compatible models:

  • AMD RYZEN 7 8700G

  • AMD RYZEN 5 8500G

  • AMD RYZEN 5 8500GE

  • AMD RYZEN 5 8600G

  • AMD RYZEN 5 PRO 8540U

  • AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 8700G

  • AMD RYZEN 5 PRO 8600G

  • AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 8600GE

  • AMD RYZEN 5 PRO 8500G

  • AMD RYZEN 5 PRO 8640HS

  • AMD RYZEN 5 PRO 8640U

  • AMD RYZEN 5 PRO 8645HS

  • AMD RYZEN 7 PRO 8840HS

  • AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 8840U

  • AMD RYZEN 7 PRO 8845HS

  • AMD RYZEN 7 PRO 8945HS

Which says, anyone who now runs the 8th, 9th, and 10th Intel Gene processors (including expensive mainstay chips such as Core i9 9900K/10900K), it is necessary to improve their processor to receive the latest and future Windows 11 updates.
