RAM standardization started with the Galaxy S25 series launched earlier this year, with Samsung introducing 12 GB of memory as the minimum memory for each model. For the Galaxy S26 range which is expected to be announced in January and released in February, rumors suggest that Samsung will reintroduce 12GB LPDDR5X RAM as standard, but there will be two differences. Firstly, the memory will run at higher speeds, and secondly, there will be a 16GB RAM version, but you’ll have to spend extra as this configuration will be exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The higher 16GB LPDDR5X RAM running at 10.7Gbps will remain exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but it’s not yet known whether it’s for the base storage or all variants.

The LPDDR5X RAM running in all Galaxy S25 models runs at 8.5Gbps, but Schrödinger claims in It’s disappointing that Samsung won’t be switching to LPDDR6 RAM next year. Although the company is said to be showcasing this technology at the CES 2026 trade show, the newer standard’s 10.7Gbps bandwidth will remain unchanged compared to the speed of the LPDDR5X RAM chips expected to be found in the Galaxy S26 lineup, so we’re not missing out on much.

Leading tipster Ice Universe has teased a list of camera and thermal improvements coming to the Galaxy S26 series thanks to a faster 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X RAM chip. For the Galaxy S26 Ultra, rumors claim that Samsung’s high-end model will ship with 16 GB of memory, instead of 12 GB for other handsets. While this is good news for those looking to upgrade next year, we still have some unanswered questions that weren’t mentioned in the post. For example, will the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s higher amount of RAM be available on all storage tiers, or just one of them?

Remember, the Galaxy S25 Ultra also comes with a 16 GB RAM model, but it is exclusive to South Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Additionally, this higher amount of memory is only paired with 1TB of storage, so customers will have to dig deeper into their pockets to get this version. We certainly hope Samsung doesn’t repeat history next year, considering the competition is getting tougher, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for any and all updates we come across.
