Red Desert maybe it’s already sold 2 million units thanks to strong hype, however reviews from critics and users were not as positive Pearl Gorge expected by investors, which leads to a 30% stock crash on Thursday and a 10% One on Friday.
Now, it seems some of the developers have decided to speak anonymously about some of the issues that plagued the game’s long development (it was even postponed indefinitely in 2021 and only resurfaced two years later). Two detailed behind-the-scenes posts about Crimson Desert appeared on Blind (as seen on Reddit), an anonymous professional social network primarily used by technology and finance industry workers. To post on Blind, employees must be verified using their work email address.
According to the first poster, the story, which is certainly one of the weakest and most criticized parts of the game, changed a lot from the original planwhich sounds much more interesting than the final plot:
The story was only decided before it was released. Therefore, story excerpts couldn’t come out, and since this was a story about a mercenary group, there was no talk of a mercenary group. The fact that this only happens to the protagonist Kliff is also for this reason. Additionally, Kliff was originally named “Macduff”, but his name was changed because it had serial killer overtones…?
The story initially begins with a young king whose throne was usurped, coming to the Greyman family. A middle-aged prime minister who looks after a young king and a young princess comes and asks to make them nobles, and he is satisfied with getting back a type of “currency” made from minerals that can only be collected in the regional region of the “Red Desert”. So, in the process of occupying the Red Desert to seize hegemony and make them nobles, this middle-aged prime minister supposedly betrays them and tries to become king himself, and the story is about stopping him and winning.
In the midst of it, a director gets knocked out in a power struggle and resigns, and once someone from an arts background becomes General Manager, they start to turn everything around. This person, who was the General Manager, was the general manager in name only; they were just obedient subordinates. And everyone in the team who holds a rank is just an obedient subordinate. Individual will? Personal opinion? They don’t exist. That’s why they were able to maintain their rank. The current outcome is what happens when things start to turn upside down for art. In fact, Ervin was originally the young king’s bodyguard and a man.
The post also hints at a culture of subordination where personal opinions are not valued. This topic is expanded on in the second post:
Once, a high-level Leader said to me, “Do you know why you can’t be one of us? It’s because a Leader has to be someone who looks in the same direction as us.” What this really means is that they only want people who say “Yes” unconditionally, follow orders, and never talk back. In other words, every head at the top of the inverted pyramid is filled with like-minded people. I’m sure most of my colleagues involved in development realized that Crimson Desert was going off the rails. However, I don’t think many people are able to speak up about this. As I mentioned, they don’t admit anyone who doesn’t share the same mindset.
They simply praise their own work as “awesome,” and whenever they see a reference here or there that looks good, they just throw it in. As the features get jumbled up, the control layout inevitably gets messy too. I believe it is a given that the Red Desert will be a disaster. I don’t think there’s any right direction for companies that pressure people for speaking out about wrongdoing.
Both posts agree that officials added too many features from other games, such as Sky Island being inspired by it The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdomswithout any justification and also to the detriment of unnecessarily complicated controls.
This is another controversy after the discovery of AI art in the game and the fact that Crimson Desert does not run on Intel ARC graphics cards. Still, this game is definitely not a total disaster. A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google.
