Comparison of the physical camera sizes of the Galaxy S26 Ultra shows that it lags behind competing flagship phones

Samsung has largely remained conservative regarding camera specs on its premium smartphones, opting to use the same sensors while focusing heavily on computing improvements. This approach may work for a while, but only if competitors choose not to continue their own improvements, which is why, on paper, the Galaxy S26 Ultra seems more like a mid-range phone when comparing individual physical camera measurements to its competitors.

In short, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to have four cameras on the back, giving more flexibility to users, but as far as image and video quality is concerned, that is still up for debate. At the X, @nexpoly compares the physical camera sizes of Samsung’s upcoming premium offering with the Vivo

While the main wide-angle unit isn’t all that different, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s secondary sensor is very different. For those who don’t know, camera size plays the most important role in camera quality because a larger physical area allows more light to pass through, thereby improving the final results in various lighting conditions.

Fortunately, companies like Samsung have overcome this obstacle by using computational photography, which utilizes a series of imaging algorithms and AI to improve image quality as much as possible. Unfortunately, there is little that software can accomplish until the hardware becomes a severe bottleneck.

The only advantage the Galaxy S26 Ultra has over the Vivo X300 Ultra is that it packs an additional periscope telephoto camera, but the paper specs only tell half the truth. What’s most important is real-world performance, something we want to know. Additionally, if you thought the camera was the only downgrade, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s S Pen is expected to lack Bluetooth connectivity.

Additionally, the 5,000 mAh battery capacity mentioned in leaked marketing materials will provide the same runtime as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, although Weibo tipster Momentary Digital claims that the flagship phone will last longer than Samsung’s previous flagship phones.
