Intel once had some big plans for the Battlemage GPU family with larger die, 3D stacked cache solutions & more, but those plans were scrapped due to unfortunate circumstances surrounding the blue team’s financial position, and a change in leadership.
Intel’s Canned “Battlemage” GPU Package Reveals Larger Dies With Up To 40 Xe2 Cores, 3D Stacked “Adamantine” Cache & Halo SoC
Intel’s first-generation Arc GPU, codenamed Alchemist, didn’t go the blue team’s way, but the graphics division bounced back through solid driver support, setting the stage for the next-generation Arc lineup, aka Battlemage. When Intel developed its Xe2 “Battlemage” GPU, the company laid out some very ambitious plans. We now only see remnants of those plans in the form of prototypes or insider revelations.
X user, @GOKForFree, who actively shares some interesting prototypes of Intel Arc discrete graphics cards, had posted an image of an unknown graphics card some time ago. The images were posted in May (2025), and although little to no information was available at the time, we now have an idea of what these PCBs will be used for.

For starters, the graphics card’s PCB is designed for a much larger GPU die, larger than the Battlemage BMG-G21, found on the Arc B580 and Arc B570 retail graphics cards. The board has six GDDR6 memory sites, hints at a 192-bit bus and also has dual 8-pin connectors. The VRM also looks more sophisticated than the Arc B series graphics cards.
It looks like we now have an idea of what this PCB will be used for, and it appears to be designed around the high-end Intel Battlemage BMG-G10 die, which features a BGA 2727 design. According to Bionic_Squash, the BMG-G10 GPU will come in two configurations: the BMG-G10 X3 with 28 Xe cores and the BMG-G10 X4 with 40 Xe cores. For comparison, the Intel Arc B580 maxes out at 20 Xe cores.
- Battlemage BMG-G10 X4 (Cancelled): 40 Xe2 Cores
- Battlemage BMG-G31 (Expected): 32 Xe2 cores
- Battlemage BMG-G10 X3 (Cancelled): 28 Xe2 cores
- Battlemage BMG-G21 (Launched): 20 Core Xe2
Looking at the BGA arrangement on the Arc Battlemage PCB prototype, it looks like it will be used for a high-end GPU and is different from the BMG-G21, as the BGA layout for that chip is different:
Additionally, another key feature of the canceled Arc Battlemage discrete graphics cards is the use of Adamantine cache. This will be a 3D stacked solution with a base tile offering up to 512MB of cache and the GPU sitting on top of the base tile, similar to the Clearwater Forest chip.
The same cache solution and high-end Battlemage discrete graphics tiles would also feature in the Arrow Lake Halo SoC, which was also cancelled. The company is now expected to launch its first Halo SoC with the Nova Lake lineup, which will integrate a Xe3P GPU, while future Halo SoCs could use Intel and NVIDIA GPU tiles.
In addition to all this, the canceled Intel Arc Battlemage discrete graphics cards will retain the 192-bit bus interface, although we may see double the memory, say 24 GB like the PRO cards and faster pin speeds for faster bandwidth. The graphics card also displays PCIe Gen5 readiness. So overall, Intel will be taking a very different path before significant changes are made to the company.

Regardless, Intel’s Arc division is still alive and kicking. The software division is doing great, and rolling out great drivers, and we also recently saw the announcement of XeSS 3 MFG alongside other useful technologies at Tech Tour 2025. Intel is also reportedly working on a high-end Battlemage GPU, the Arc B770, & with Nova Lake getting Xe3P, which will power the next-gen Arc lineup, we’re very excited for Intel’s next big graphics and GPU announcement.
