The next EPYC CPU of the AMD generation based around the SP7 socket, such as Venice “Zen 6”, can display up to power consumption of up to 1400W.
The next generation of EPYC AMD Venice “Zen 6” & SP7-Socketed CPU can scale from 700W, along the road up to 1400W power
In a presentation by Taiwan Microloops Corp during the OCP APAC Summit, the company presented a sophisticated liquid cooling solution for the next generation server. This includes the upcoming SP7 platform, which replaces the SP5, the platform currently used for Genoa and Turin chips. The SP7 platform will accommodate the AMD generation EPYC, Venice “Zen 6” and Verano CPU, with the first to display up to 256 cores.
While AMD will update the overall specifications of this chip with a higher number of cores & expanded IO capabilities, this chip will also consume a lot of power. Now, many strength does not mean that this will not save power. As we have seen with every generation of EPYC CPUs, AMD has increased the power rate, but at the same time, this chip finally offers a much higher performance, and each generation has exceeded before in terms of power efficiency.

So, coming to a solution, microloops has developed a new cold plate solution designed to cool the KW level. That’s true, the SP7 AMD socket will need a large cooling, and we finally see the KW Cooling Solution. Cold plates have two ports, one inlet and one outlet, and the top displays the metal tunnel that is screwed in its place. The top also has an acrylic cover, and there are a total of six installation screws, which are similar to the configuration used for SP5.

In its evaluation, the manufacturer includes the scaling of the Epyc SP7 AMD chip power, which began in 700W and runs up to 1400W. At present, the EPYC Turin AMD chip is rising to 500W, so 700W has been an increase of 40% for SP7 chips.
Turin chips can exceed 500W in certain configurations, and we have also seen the enthusiastic level of the threadripper reaching more than 1 kW of power when the PBO is activated. EPYC is not designed around the PBO, but gives us a picture of where the next generation threadrippers are direction, with more than 1000-1500W when pushed to their limits.
During the 2025 hot chip, Fabric8labs proposed a new thermal solution outside the cold -cooled cold plate. The company states that the existing cold plates with straight channels have limited performance and thus, they have compiled new solutions in the form of ecam or electrochemical additives that offer thermal performance of 20% to 85% higher.
With ecam, new and innovative channel design can be included for CPU and GPU. Ecam also offers lower thermal resistance and creates an option for higher TDP chips in reducing operating costs.
EPYC Venice CPU AMD based on Zen 6 core architecture will be the first to display support on the SP7 platform. There will also be SP8 for the entry-level platform as detailed here. This chips will be launched in the coming year and will compete with the Clearwater Forest Xeon E-Core e-Core and Diamond Rapids Xeon P-Core Keluarga.
