18 Cores at 4.80 GHz & 72 MB Cache, Initial Lineup Specifications Revealed

Intel’s upcoming Xeon 654 CPU has been leaked along with initial specifications of the entire Granite Rapids Workstation lineup.

Intel’s upcoming Granite Rapids-WS or Workstation CPU family will launch in a matter of months if all goes well. We know from previous details that the lineup will feature two CPU segments: a mainstream family with 4-channel DDR5 memory support and an Expert family with 8-channel memory support. The mainstream family will feature 80 PCIe Gen5 lanes while the Expert line features 128 PCIe Gen5 lanes.

Previously, we saw one of the top SKUs with 86 cores and 172 threads leaked on the W890 platform. This chip is an engineering sample clocked at 2.10 GHz. Now, another CPU SKU has been leaked, and this time in the Geekbench 6 database.

The new chip is called the Intel Xeon 654 and was tested on the GNR-WS reference platform with 32 GB of DDR5 memory. This CPU has 18 cores, 36 threads, 72 MB L3 cache, and 36 MB L2 cache. The clock is rated at 4.60 GHz according to the Geekbench database, but the actual speed hovers around 4.80 GHz. These numbers are not something to write down; the single-core score is 2634 points, while the multi-core score is rated at 14,743. Even the 12-core Threadripper 9000 chip scored better than this, but that’s due to the ES nature of the test platform here.

Additionally, some more details surrounding the lineup have been revealed by Momomo_US, who has listed several SKUs, including the 654, leaked on Geekbench. Only the SKU name, clock speed, and cache amount are mentioned. The chip will peak at the Xeon 698X with 86 cores & 336 MB cache.

It’s great to see there are multiple “X” variants in the lineup, allowing for overclocking support. As for pricing, we’d like to see it as competitive as possible against the Threadripper 9000 family, but the final price is something Intel will have to decide for themselves. We expect a late Q4 or CES 26 launch for the Granite Rapids line of workstations.
